We have approximately 200 acres on our farm, which is located along the east side of the Tennessee River in north Hamilton County in the town of Birchwood, TN. Approximately 33 acres are pastured, with two barns built in 2000 and 2004. The pastures that our alpacas graze are sowed yearly with orchard grass, and are separated into 3-5 acre tracts for better rotation management. In the spring we will section off more tracts that are predominantly Bermuda for late spring to early fall grazing. All of our pastures are fenced in four foot high treated lumber, then skirted with two foot high page wire along the bottom to keep out not only predators but also smaller wildlife such as skunks, opossum, etc.

Our main barn is insulated and also contains a wood stove for heating the main level in winter. On the main level we have a Med room that is in itself insulated and also has its own HVAC. The upstairs of the barn contains guest quarters, a large cedar closet for short-term fleece storage, and a hayloft. On the main level the entire floor areas of the stalls and shed overhangs are concreted, with covered drainage to maximize cleanliness.

We have been fortunate to have access to excellent Veterinary services, and our partner farms have given valuable information over the past two years on such issues as feeding, healthcare, husbandry, and all other aspects of raising Alpacas here in the south.
